Note the "West 111" marking. There is some debate on whether 111 is both an E/W and N/S route, or whether signs marking the route as E/W are in error. The green signs along the multiplex with Mass 2 show the route as "West 111," but there are no "West 111" guideposts. The first 111 shield on the route is the "North 111" shield below which appears after 2 and 111 split. There is a 111 shield attached to an "East 2" assembly (below). If the route does officially change direction, then it is only an E/W route for the approximately two miles it runs with route 2. August 20, 2006.
